Some useful pointers that allow you to get the best from redesigning your outdoor space

A lawn for children to play on is a safe area often in view of the house, it is level, soft underfoot, usually confined, outside in the fresh air, easy to maintain and spills don’t matter.

A patio is great addition and why not extend the size and reshape it to give give yourself more space and added interest

Paths allow safe level access around your garden

Fire pits, chimineas and barbecues – provide means of entertainment and tranquility, adding gentle light, warmth and a focal point to congregate around.

A water feature adds something to the garden no other aspect of landscaping  can bring… sound and  it can also be manipulated to your specific preference in a variety of different ways.

Retaining walls give access to uninhabitable space by excavating soil and preventing subsidence.

Decks are a great way of creating a usable space on an uneven plot. Ideal for reducing steps down in to your garden, they are laid on joists that allow air to circulate and prevent damp in your property, why not complement the deck with some lighting to really bring it to life on an evening…

Plants add a really dramatic effect to the garden, adding dapple shade, colour, privacy, noise reduction and shelter from the wind. With so many to choose from it pays to have an idea of what is really appropriate and what will have the best effect.

A continuous woven fence is a great way of creating a boundary without feeling too enclosed, the rustic look works well in any situation.

A pergola with a weatherproof roof can provide a basic structure outside your home to enable an alfresco lifestyle where meals can be prepared and eaten, with the addition of a fire place there is no reason not to enjoy this way of living/cooking all year round.
